Morning Leaves
A fall morning on the New River in West Virginia. The bridge in the image is the longest arch bridge in the western hemisphere. It was completed in 1977 and reduced the drive from one side of the river to the other to less than a minute from the 40 minutes it had been before. If we had been here a day earlier when they were celebrating "Bridge Day" to commemorate the anniversary of the bridge, we would have seen people BASE jumping and rappelling off the bridge. "BASE" stands for Building, Antenna (tower), Span (arch or bridge), and Earth (cliff or natural formation), the four categories of objects in which BASE jumpers jump from.
