Old Baldy

One of my favorite hills in the Texas Hill Country. I have climbed Old Baldy at Garner State Park more times than I can count for views of the valley cut by the Frio River. I have swam beneath it's shadow in the chilly Frio River on many a warm day. I never tire of seeing it and always welcome it's sight whenever I visit this special place. Sure wish I could go there today, but unfortunately I will have to settle to live that adventure through this photo today.

Summertime Blues

Sitting here this morning longing for warmer days like I believe these paddleboats would if they had thoughts. I made this shot in November when we visited Garner State Park on a nice sunny, warm day. Not many people in the park that day, as is usually the case later in the year from my experience. What I wouldn't do to be back there again enjoying that great park.

Autumn Afternoon

We spent the afternoon on Sunday driving through the Texas Hill Country. After a stop at the overcrowded Lost Maples State Park, we made the short jaunt over to Garner State Park to see what colors we might find along the Frio. We were not disappointed as you can see in this shot. I have always loved the clarity of the water in the Hill Country streams and you can see it in this shot with the roots of the cypress trees extending into the river. The deciduous trees were in full blazing glory as the sun lowered in the western sky. It really was a magical moment in one of my favorite Hill Country destinations.

Lady Bug Pedals

With so many beautiful fall foliage shot opportunities, it was nice to see some other colors in Garner State Park. Apparently this lady bug liked the colors too. :-)

Alligator Cypress

This down log reminded me of an alligator when I saw it. Although you'll probably never see a real alligator in these waters, I thought it looked great with the changing cypress.

Frio Fall

Dreaming of summer and waiting for swimmers to return and swing from this rope next year. I made this shot while walking up and down the Frio River in Garner State Park checking out the fall colors. Looking at this photo reminds me of my youth and how I'd love to spend a hot summer day. Oh how I would love to swing from this rope on a warmer day.

Baldy Reflections

Garner State Park was one of my favorite summer vacation spots as a child. As an adult I still love going to this special place. It brings back so many great family memories.

New and Old

It's refreshing to see young cypress trees on the banks of the Frio River to know the giants are still alive and well and will continue for future generations to enjoy.
