When I received the wedding day info back from the bride and groom and the one shot they list, that they had also told me verbally that they wanted, was a big panoramic of their guests with them, you know it's going to be on the top of my shot list. Laurie and Ian had planned their wedding to take place outdoors at Krause Springs in the Texas Hill Country. If you’ve never been to Krause Springs, it is a nice little jewel with clear water springs and waterfalls. Only problem, it’s a little difficult to trek down to the springs in swimming gear, much less wedding attire and heels. Getting 70-100 people down to the springs for a photo session was not going to happen, so what was I going to do. They have a real nice garden at Krause Springs, but there is not enough room in the garden for that many people. Even doing some formal shots of just the bride and groom were a little tight on space. As I looked around at the venue and spoke with the bride and groom I got an idea to backlight the group with the sun, using the branches of a huge oak tree to break the light. Plus it was right behind the pavilion they had their ceremony in and no one would be squinting in the mid afternoon sun. My assistant (AKA my wife :-) ) and I got the group set up right after the wedding and I perched myself on the step ladder I always take to weddings for just such photo opportunities. With a little added light provided to front light the party we were able to make this shot. Having such a great, fun group to photograph made it a snap.
