A blue morning in the Hall of Horrors area of Joshua Tree National Park. The Hall of Horrors is a popular rock climbing area in the park, although on this morning I was the only one there. The rocks on the left are the attraction for the rock climbers, but I was here to capture the Joshua Trees at sunrise, albeit the rocks were a nice added bonus.
The highest sand dunes in Great Sand Dunes National Park rise to a height of 755 feet, but from this vantage point as we were leaving the park they look almost as tall at the 13,000 foot peaks in the distance. The dunes cover over 300 square miles and can be seen for miles before you arrive at the park. I captured this image of the dunes in the early evening as the sun was still fairly high in the western sky and we were heading back to town and our hotel for the night. Having fun with a little light painting in the Chisos Basin of Big Bend National Park. The sign you see is the one at the exit from the campground in the basin. There are no lights to light it up and there was no moon to aid in providing a little light, so I used my headlamp for about a second or two to illumimate the sign just enough. On nights like this one it almost needs another sign staing 'Milky Way' with an arrow pointed straight up. :-) Photo by Steve Coyle Photography (www.stevecoylephotography.com)
