Took this with my iPhone 5. Still amazes me what you can do with a camera phone. 10 years ago you would have needed a fairly decent DSLR to get a shot like this.

Wildflower Majesty

I took photos of this with both my Nikon DSLR and iPhone 5. The shot from the iPhone 5 won out in this case. It was very windy on top of Signal Mountain when I captured this shot, plus it was on a steep hillside making it very difficult to hold the camera low enough to capture the wildflowers while still keeping the mountains in the same area of the frame. Luckily this was digital because it took a lot of shots to get the one I was really pleased with. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Geysers Galore

Mark Twain once said the coldest winter he ever experienced as a summer in San Francisco. I can now say the same of Yellowstone National Park, for as we wandered through the West Thumb Geyser Basin, it not only rained on us, but also sleeted. My expensive DSLR stayed in the car and my iPhone 5 came to the photo rescue, capturing shot like this one on that cold summer morning.

I remember my grandmother talking about how she loved the way the clouds looked in a summer Texas sky. Like cotton balls in a sea of blue. I believe this would have been a sky she would have enjoyed.

Follow the Road

I love the nice, wide open roadways of Texas. Makes for some great bicycle riding. This happens to be on one of my regular rides, as it is for many riders who escape Austin for a ride in the Hill Country.

Wind to Water

A classic Texas Hill Country view, especially if you take the road less traveled like I do on my bicycle. The grass is dried out, waiting for the next rain, which in the summertme, may not come for months. The puffy clouds are just a tease of the moisture that is available, but does not fall.

Harrowing Heights

You hike below these two peaks on your ascent to the top of Mount Whitney in California. It amazes me thinking about the geologic forces it took to push/lift these peaks to the height they are today. It's impressive to see this field of talus in person. Having our friend Laura in the shot provides some perspective on how big these boulders really are. At 14,000 feet there is little to know vegetation and the air is thin. To know I have stood here and walked among these giants will remain with me the rest of my life.
