T.A. Moulton Barn

Paying homage to what is probably the most photographed barn in the US. The T.A. Moulton barn in Grand Teton National Park turned 100 last Saturday. The park had a big celebration honoring the birthday. Wish I could have been there for the festivities, but we were there a month to early.

Often referred to as buffalo, these beast are actually North American bison. At one time they numbered in the millions, but today are only in the thousands. No longer endangered, there are still far fewer of them than prior to the 19th century. Their immense size is a nice contrast against the majestic backdrop of the Teton Range.

Snake Storm

Rains threaten to unleash on the Snake River Valley in Grand Teton National Park. Being out in this weather was intense! Lightning was pretty close and the temps were dropping, but the shots I got made it worth it, I think.

Wildflowers in the Storm

A stormy afternoon over the Snake River valley. The view from Signal Mountain is second to none with sweeping vistas of the Snake River valley and Teton Range.

To hike to places like Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point or destinations further into the Teton Range, you have one of two choices at Jenny Lake. You can hike 5 miles to the start of the trailhead into the mountains or you can hop on board one of the ferries that carry passengers from the parking area at Jenny Lake to the same point on the trailhead on the far side of the lake. If you take the ferry option you'll have nice views of Teewinot Mountain, the only mountain in the Teton Range that retained it's Native American name after the Anglo settlers arrived.

I saw this woman hiking to the top of Inspiration Point in Grand Teton National Park. Luckily I was in the right spot to capture her on the descent. Just proves you don't need hiking gear to hike in the mountains, but I'm not sure the Minnie Mouse ears will be the next fad in hiking gear.

Stairway to Heaven

The rocky, narrow ascent to Inspiration Point at Grand Teton National Park is not for the timid. If you have a fear of heights, this last scramble to the top will probably stop you in your tracks. For those that venture on, the view of Jenny Lake and the mountains beyond is spectacular.

Hidden Falls

Hidden Falls is located on Cascade Creek, Grand Teton National Park in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The falls drop approximately 100 feet (30 m) near the eastern end of Cascade Canyon, and west of Jenny Lake. The easiest way to access the falls is by way of the Jenny Lake boat shuttle which goes from South Jenny Lake to the entrance of Cascade Canyon. From there it is a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) roundtrip hike along the Cascade Canyon Trail to viewing points for the falls. Another option is to hike 5.2 miles (8.4 km) roundtrip from South Jenny Lake on the Jenny Lake Trail. -wikipedia

The Chapel of the Transfiguration is a small log chapel in Grand Teton National Park, in the community of Moose. The chapel was sited and built to frame a view of the Cathedral Group of peaks in a large window behind the altar. The chapel, which was built in 1925, is owned and operated by St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson. -wikipedia

Snake River Overlook

From the location of the famous Ansel Adams shot of the Tetons, although I don't think the trees were nearly as tall when he captured this shot. If you sit here for a while you'll see river rafters like the one in this shot (time to find Elmo).

Framing Moran

Walking along the shore of Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park this summer I spied this shot of Mount Moran. Makes me wish I was back there.

Nesting

Caught this guy gathering materials for his nest down by the lake on Colter Bay. Warm periods are short in Grand Teton, reckon he spends a lot of his time getting ready for colder weather.
